About this event

Embossed Foil Mobiles Workshop with Brie Flora

Many people are familiar with baby mobiles, but these hanging sculptures have been around for thousands of years. Around the world, in places like Greece, Rome, Asia, and more would create mobiles out of metal and glass, sometimes adding bells or chimes for good luck. Mobiles as an art form started in the early 20th century, and in the early 1930s, sculptor and mechanical engineer Alexander Calder began to make what we now know as a Modern Art Mobile.

In our Embossed Mobiles Workshop, attendees will design and create their own hanging mobile using embossing foils and metal wire. Participants will learn how to transfer their own drawings, or work from provided templates, onto foil through embossing. They will also learn how to shape and form wire for the mobile structure using pliers and wire cutters, resulting in a finished sculptural piece

Q: Do I need prior experience with metalwork or art? A: No experience is necessary. This workshop is beginner-friendly and designed for anyone who wants to explore embossing.

Q: What will I take home? A: You’ll take home your completed hanging mobile sculpture, ready to display

Q: Will I be using sharp tools? A: Yes, participants will use pliers and wire cutters to shape wire. For safety, the workshop is recommended for ages 13 and up.

This in-person event will be held at Edison Hills @ 127 W Broad St. Cookeville, Tn, on April 2nd, 2026, 5:00-7:00pm
